MY Holy days

Black witch doctor here; and it's Halloween.

Also known as All Hallows Eve.

Also known as “Samhain” (pronounced "SAW-en”) in the tradition of the Celts in the British Isles.

I describe myself as a W.I.T.C.H. Embracing the term as an acronym for “Women In Tune with Conscious Healing” is fairly new for me; I love that it gets my message across in a fairly succinct way. But truth be told, I have been easing myself “out of the broom closet” for over thirty years!

I am a AmeriKKKan-born woman, descended from enslaved Africans, raised in a loosely Christian household and trained up professionally as a conventional family practitioner. I stumbled into neopaganism by way of Celtic and Scandinavian traditions being explored by Boston area white people finding their European roots:

Back in the 1990s.

I opened myself to The Mysteries using their magical tools and found myself tumbling into a world of heightened sensitivities, and deepening intuitions.

Who knew that those tools would lead me on a rollercoaster ride into spirituality of the African diaspora?

Santeria. Candomble. Haitian voodoo. And now I am delighted to see so many Black, indigenous and other colored herbalists naming themselves “root workers” and open practitioners of hoodoo, in the next two generations beyond me.

The older I get, the clearer I become. The more grounded I am, the more I see the power in just simply sitting still. I am letting folks come to me, as I practice sharing the gifts that I am delighted to offer as a wisening elder.

Enjoy this 5 minute video (from five years ago, at a community senior center) of a share of my favorite seasonal song:

Happy Halloween to everyone. With a reminder, there is a deeper story behind the ghouls, the goblins, the ghosts and that sickening green tone to the witch masks.

More on that later, as the Season Of The Black Witch Doctor unfolds…
